Your tongue needs brushed everyday just like your teeth. This may be all it needs. However, it could also be a fungal infection so if it stays for long see your doctor or dentist. There is a possibility that the coating is due to thrush especially if you have been on antibiotics for awhile.

Whiteness on the back of your tongue, especially if it is fuzzy, is a build-up of bacteria. If you do not deal with the problem soon, it could cause halitosis, or bad breath. This is simple to get rid of. Make sure to brush your tongue twice a day with your teeth, and use mouthwash. This should flush it out.

A white coating can indicate that you are dehydrated, smoke or drink alcohol excessively, or reveal a yeast infection of the mouth. It is a good idea to keep your tongue clean by using a tongue scraper, repeating three or four times to get the entire surface clean.
