I just got a tongue piercing. How can I tell for sure if it's infected?

My throat is uncomfortable and my tongue stays white.

My sister is a nurse and she says if you notice colors like green, gray, purple or black around the pierced area that is a clear sign of severe infection. Also if you notice a bad smell or an abcess that is definitely an infection. You should immediately seek a phycisian.

Because of your symptoms, I would say it is infected. How long ago did you get it? Swelling is normal for tongue piercings for up to about 2 weeks after you get it. If your throat is uncomfortable, that is not a normal side effect. I would take it out and ask your piercer.

That sounds bad. You should probably go to the doctor. Even if it is not infected, it's good to be on the safe side. Nobody will know except an expert like a doctor.
