Why is my bicycle chain skipping?

Please check initially for looseness in your chain, that's the most common cause. You can get a tool to tighten your chain and work it at the master chain link. You should always carry a master link in your emergency kit. Check for something "gumming up" in your chain.

Either your sprocket is worn or the chain is loose. Check the chain for slack. If it has two much you will need to adjust your rear wheel until it has the correct tension.

bicycle chain must be loose for the gears or some times too tight. BY loose i mean that the chain must be bigger in length or size.
