Question by  worried (1)

What will happen if I served breakfast sausage that was 20 days past its expiration date?

It was an accident. I didn't bother to look at the date. It didn't smell off (maybe a little) but I'm worried about the people who ate it. What should I do and look for? Is there any chance we might be okay if it was well cooked? I can't believe I did this!

If the meat was stored frozen or well refrigerated, you might be okay. Look for nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting and go to a doctor if any of that happens.

The worst that I would suspect would happen, would be bad stomach upset or food type poisoning. If the food was properly cooked, you may be safe from any sickness. Try pepto-bismol if you're worried.

There is potential for food poisoning and food borne illness with serving meat after the expiration date. If the meat was frozen, you shouldn't have issues. If no one showed symptoms within 24 hours, you should be fine.
