When putting lights outdoors make sure that the lights are rated for the outdoors. Don't put indoor lights outside. You should have a way to clip or staple the lights to your house. When you put them up don't overload the circuits. You should only have a few strands of lights per outlet.

Are you able to afford the electric bill. It will cost you more. What kinds of lights and what do you want to decorate is a big consideration. Have someone to help you so you won't have to climb and reach by yourself. After deciding go to your local hardward store and buy.
