It depends on your base fitness level. Start slowly, and alternate between running and walking. For example, start by walking for one minute and then running for one minute. As you get more comfortable, add running time; for instance, by wlaking one minute and running for two minutes.

Endurance training is important, but be sure not to do it every day because your body needs time to heal. You should also be sure to do a lot of stretches so that you don't injure yourself. Practice sprints as well, because this becomes important near the end of the race.
