What is the history of cartooning?

If you really look at the whole scope of things, cartooning really started on the walls of caves by early man. Those sick figures etched on the walls were an "animated" representation of other people that the "artist" came in contact with. So in all reality, cartoons began on cave walls.

Cartooning started pretty much when mankind gave up hunting and gathering. Cave drawings exist in places like France where the sketches on the wall fall within the bounds of cartooning.
