The last stage means that anything at all, even a walk of a few steps, results in extreme breathlessness. This leads to respiratory failure.

The patient becomes more and more short of breath. These stages are figured by numbers and last stage is figured at around 30% of normal lung capacity. Respiratory failure is common in last stage and there can be much breathlessness even at rest. Different people are affected by these stages differently.

When that happens, the other organs in the body must work harder to maintain adequate air supply. Expect more pressure on the heart, which increases the chance of cardiac arrest.
