Levaquin is a very good broad spectrum antibiotic that is widely used. However, it would not be the usual first line antibiotic choice to treat strep throat. This is because the organism that causes this illness is treated very well by penicillin and amoxicillin.. Levaquin should only be used if allergy or insensitivity of these drugs is an issue.

Yes, Levaquin is used in the treatment of strep throat. It will work, but some think that it's overkill. There are other antibiotics which can be used in place of Levaquin. Erythromycin or another antibiotic from the macrolide family. Talk to your doctor about your options and, also, possible side effects.

Levaquin is commonly prescribed for strep throat; although many other antibiotics will work (depending on individual tolerance) to cure the culture. Most can be used with pain relievers to reduce swelling and discomfort until bacteria is eliminated.

Levaquin isn't a standard prescribed medication for a standard strep throat infection. Levaquin is usually prescribed in very serious or life-threatening conditions when other antibiotics have failed. It belongs to a drug class that has more frequent negative side-effects so doctors are hesitant to use it. Also, very few bacteria are resistant and doctors want to keep it that way.

Levaquin works very well for strep throat. It is actually in the antibiotic family. It helps to fight bacterial infections like strep throat almost immediately. It kills bacteria and shortens the time it is contagious. See your family physician to be sure you have strep because Levaquin is only available by prescription.
