How common are false negatives with a strep throat swab culture?

I have had a negative strep throat swab.

Not very common as long as they're taken when symptoms are showing. Try a test for Mono, I thought I had strep and it turned out to be mono.

A false negative result means, that the patient was contaminated with strep but results were negative. this is very uncommon.

It all depends on if it was done in the doctors office or it was sent out if it was done in the doctors office and came up negative go in have another one tell them to send it out. If it was sent out then it was correct.

These cultures are known for often returning a false negative. This should lead you to always question the results with your doctor.
