It depends on the perspective you're looking from. Generally the consensus for modern internet is cable is on top of DSL, which is on top of dial-up. If you're coming from dial-up, you'll definitely see faster speeds. If you're going down from cable, it'll probably seem slower. DSL is also convenient as it uses the phone lines. Cable uses cable.

DSL (Digital Subscriber Link) is a technology for fast internet. DSL is good since it guarantees constant bandwidth (unlike cable which fluctuates heavily), but the cost for DSL may be higher and the signal strength depends on your distance form the local telephone exchange (PSTN).
