Is a plecostomus considered a scavenger?

No. It could be argued that plecostomus is not a scavenger because it feeds on algae. This makes the fish more of a plant eater and less of a scavenger. The plecostomus is known as a sucker fish or a common algae sucker. They feed on the algae and are used to clean the fish tanks in some cases.

Pleco's are scavengers and will eat just about anything left on the bottom of your tank. They do a wonderful job keeping your tank and decor algae free.
