How do I fix wet circuit breakers?

Answer by  john11 (617)

IF you leave it alone and let it try, it will fix itself. Whatever you do, if it active, do not touch it!

You do not EVER fix or repair a wet circuit breaker, replacement is the only option here. Care and considerations must be taken to prevent further moisture from entering the circuit breaker panel in the future.

You can't fix them. Even if they dry out and seem to be working just fine, there is a very good chance they will still fail due to damage to the trip device inside. The best thing to do would be to destroy them and to replace them with new ones.

let them dry,if they still don't function properly, remove the screws and clean the contacts on the inside,if it still doesn't work, they are easy and kind of cheap to replace.

The first step should be to figure out where the water is coming from. Water and electricity do not mix! I would dissconect the wire off each breaker and pull them out of the panel and give them a good wipe down with a towel. You may want to flip off the main when doing this if your not experienced.
