I'm installing a circuit breaker, and I want to know whether I need a double pole breaker or not.

A two pole breaker is used if you are installing a 120v circuit or a 220v circuit. A 220 takes a two pole breaker
A two pole breaker would be used if you were installing a 230v circuit. If you were installing a 120v circuit a single pole breaker would suffice. When in doubt always contact a qualified electrician.
