He didn't tolerate them. He physically threw the moneychangers and their wares out of the Temple because they were cheating poor people and making huge profits.

I think he loved them, remembering and recognizing that they were God's creatures, too. I think he was wise enough not to let himself be drawn into their emotional dramas, manipulation, and negativity. I think he spoke truth to them, but usually gently and with a certain inescapable logic. He stayed centered and didn't let himself be pulled into anger.
