Potassium is water soluble, so if you are losing fluids through heavy sweat or urination you can flush it out of your body. Something to try and see if it helps is eat a banana or two a day. You can alway call your health provider for suggestions.

You could be getting cramps because you are sweating out your potassium or you do too much standing or straining of your legs. If you think you are sweating too much, then you can eat high potassium foods like orange juice of bananas to raise your pottasium levels. If you are straining to much, try taking it easy.

A lack of potassium can be something as simple as not eating enough foods containing potassium to kidney malfunction and failure where the kidneys remove too much potassium from blood.
