An x-ray may show reduced joint space or misalignment of the joints. There might also be irregular outline of the bone instead of the smooth contour or chips of small bones within the joint space. Others would include an abnormal angle formed between the femur and tibia, causing the knee to bend sideways in arthritis.

It will show if there are any usualy growths or anything that is not supposed to be there. If you have any diseases that affect pain in your knee, they x-ray will be able to show what is causing the pain. If it is cancer, the x-ray can reveal how fast the cancer is spreading.
