There are a few possibilities, one of which is allergies. An allergic reaction to something in your environment could be the cause. If pain or burning is also present it could be some sort of an eye infection.

The possible list of causes is many. It could be a sensitivity to eye makeup, allergies, excema, harsh eye makeup remover, medications or your eyes may just be very dry.Try putting petroleum jelly on your eyelids at night. If that doesn't work make an appointment with your Dr.

Skin irritations can be caused by insufficient hygiene. Eyelashes catch a lot of debris, from dust to sweat that can sit and build up over time. Washing carefully around the eye then drying gently will flush these irritants away. If the skin is red or dry, there are various safe ointments that can be bought at most local stores.

The eyelids are irritated and that is what causes them to itch. To make the itching go away, simply rub or itch them, gently. If the itching persists then wash the eyelid and moisturize it. If the problem prevents you from living then consult a doctor immediately because it is a matter of life or death.
