A high alkaline test can mean problems in the liver such as hepatitis or another liver disease. Further medical testing will be needed. Sometimes a blockage of the liver's bile ducts can make this test high. A GGT test will then be done because on occassion, high alkaline may be coming from the bones.

It is most commonly caused by liver damage that produces large amounts of alkaline. Primary or metastatic bone cancer also releases alkaline into the blood from bone damage.

This is usually an indication that we are either having an excess intake of salted foods or foods, or if we take a normal dose of salts, then it may be that the body system eliminates more than it should which is usually caused by hormonal inbalances or a physical defect in the kidneys which principally filters the blood.

Elevated alkaline phosphatase can be indicative of bone disease or problems with the liver. If you are not experiencing troublesome symptoms such as nausea or pain, it may be a false positive result.

The cause of a high alkaline test is usually increased bone cells or bone disease or liver disease. Other tests will most likely be run to see which of these is the problem.

An alkaline phosphatase test is given when the doctor is worried about either problems with the liver, including liver disease or simply damage done to the liver and to check for bone problems, including rickets, osteomalacia, high levels of hormones, Paget's disease and bone tumors.
