Based on my personal experiences, using a warm compress while your head is tilted towards the floor will help to loosen trapped fluids in the ear. The warm air from the compress will also help to eliminate some of the discomfort.

Fluid of the ear is due to a condition called serous otitis media. Treatment involves insertion of a grommet tube.

Remember that fluid will never get 'trapped' in your ears. There is a membrane in your ear canal called the tympanic membrane (or eardrum) this is what divides your inner ear from your outer ear. If you lay on your side, gravity will do its work and the fluid will eventually drain from you ear.

The remedy I use has worked for my family and myself for years. We take antihistamine tablets. Liquid in the ears has to be made to dry up, or evaporate. The OTC antihistamines have a great drying effect on the eustachian tubes, ears and nasal passages, with minimal side-effects.
