This is a polysaccharide vaccination to prevent pneumonia. This is a conjugated vaccine which meant they are not active bacteria. The polysaccharide coat allows the immune system to recognize and destroy the dead bacteria.

Persons who received the vaccine may need to be vaccinated again after four years. This is given to people who have chronic lung disease or who are recovering from a serious disease.
