Cyanosis is the appearance of a blue hue to your skin. Nail beds, lips and tongues are areas where this is dominantly present. This hue is due to lack of circulating blood saturated with oxygen. Cyanosis can be due to poor skin circulation, cold weather, pneumonia, ashtma or heart problems.

Cyanosis is a bluish discoloration of the skin due to lack of oxygen in the blood. There are many causes and types of cyanosis. Central cyanosis (blue discoloration of the lips or tongue) is frequently a symptom of inadequate blood oxygenation in the lungs. Peripheral cyanosis (blue discoloration of the extremities) may be a result of abnormal vasoconstriction.
