What does rdw indicate in a blood test?

I had extensive blood work performed last week and just received the results. At the top it says RDW.

RDW is red cell distribution width. They measured the size of the blood cells to make sure they were mature.

RDW stands for red blood cell distribution width. It helps to reveal blood disorders. For example, the cause of anemia. In Vit B12 deficiency RDW is normal. In iron deficiency RDW is increased.

RDW is the red blood cell distribution in the body. But you have not mentioned wether your RDW is low or high. Higher RDW is indicative of anaemia or some other of kind of infection in the body. You should take the report and consult your doctor and whatever your doctor advises follow it to be on safe side.
