When Jesus Christ was being tried (before his crucifixion), his disciple Peter was watching from a courtyard. Three times, different people accused him of being one of Jesus's followers, and each time Peter denied even knowing Jesus. Jesus had predicted that Peter would deny him and later return to faith.
