EMP stands for Electro-Magnetic Pulse. It is a wave of electromagnetism, which will fry all electronics in range that are not enclosed in a Faraday cage. An EMP pulse fries computers, electronics, and car solenoids (so that they do not start). But most importantly, an EMP overloads electric substations, shutting down the electrical grid.

EMP means electrical magnetic pulse. It is a phenomenon related to the explosion of atomic weapons and is equally as devastating to anything electronic. It can be so strong as to cause induction in anything electronic and knock it out.
