It sounds like a swimbladder problem or air in the digestive tract. Try feeding your fish blanced peas or pre-soaking his food. This will help with the air.

An internal organ called the swim bladder orients goldfish in the water. Problems with this organ can cause fish to swim abnormally.

There could be an internal infection or a damager air blatter. A fish swimming verticaly usualy means its injured or sick.

The issue at hand pertains to the goldfishes swimbladder, which is obviously swollen with air. There could also be air within the fishes digestive tract.
