What can I do about cichlids eating my mollies?

Your mollies should not be in the same tank as cichlids. Cichlids generally are more aggressive particularly toward fish that have long, wavy fins. Mollies are community fish, coexisting peacefully with some of your smaller freshwater fish, such as guppies, danios and platys. Move the mollies to another tank or expect to lose them.

Unfortunately, the only real solution is to remove the mollies from the tank. Mollies are true community fish and are not aggressive so fall prey easily, they must be kept with other true community fish. Cichlids in general (compared to mollies) are aggressive. Best bet is to keep cichlids with other cichlids. Try mollies with guppies or swordtails.

If you have chichlids in a fish tank with mollies and the chichids are eating the mollies you should separate the two types of fish. Obviously, one is more aggressive than the other. Mollies are not generally known as aggressive fish. They are happiest in tanks with fish of silimar temperment, like guppies. Chichlids are known as aggressors.

If your cichlids are eating your mollies, you should realize that they are not a good pairing for your aquarium. Cichlids can be very aggressive and are quite capable of eating fish that will fit in their mouths. Try housing your mollies in a separate tank where they are safe.
