In the home, the leading cause is falling. Outside the home, more deaths are attributed to vehicular accidents caused by drunk driving than any other cause.

There are different leading causes for different ages groups and ethnicities. Generally, motor vehicle accidents, falls, poisoning, drowning and smoke/fire lead the reasons of accidental death across the board. Less than one percent is due to accidents involving firearms. The Bureau of National Vital Statistics reports annually on causes of accidental death.

the leading causes of accidental death are people dying in there bathrooms by falling and hitting there head off something hard. another one is car crashes people falling asleep and drunk drivers. guns accidentally going off while there cleans the barrel of the gun gun and forgot there is a bullet in it
