There are many causes of cataracts but some of the most common are age, complications from diabetes, prolonged eye inflammation and exposure to bright sunlight for extended periods of time.

Common causes are: Aging, overexposure to UV radiation such as sunlight, tanning booths, or sunlamps. Diabetes, can result in cataracts. Disease such as glaucoma, chronic uveitis, retinitis pigmentosa, or retinal detachment. Long-term use of steroid medicines. Frequent X-rays to the head. Family history (genetics) Eye injury.

Cataracts can be caused by several things. The clouding of your lenses can be caused from age related problems. medications that you use can have a side effect of cataracts.
