There are multiple things that you can do to help with the brightening of your betta fish. You must feed it specifically betta food. Make sure they are eating it and not playing with it. Do not feed him live food. You must also change his water every week. Also make sure you are treating his tap water.

Stress will definitely cause Bettas and most other fish to fade in color, and in a vase, stress isn't at all uncommon. Without a filter, the fish just sits in its own waste (ammonia), which is very damaging at even low concentrations (1 ppm).

Try using a fish food specifically made for bettas. Betta foods are specially made to help maintain a bettas coloring. Not all fishfoods meet the nutrional needs of a betta.

If your betta seems fine other than the color change, there is probably a problem with the pH balance in the water or something has contaminated the water. Do a water change with clean water and you could treat the betta to a color enhancing betta food.

Make sure that you have changed your water frequently. Also make sure that your fish has been fed high quality food designed for bettas. There are foods that are color enhancing.
