Yes, it is. There are many train routes available. Find the nearest one near you on your train travel departures web page. It is definitely possible, but it may cost a lot.

Yes, both Italy and Switzerland have interconnecting-passenger-rail/train-systems. Depending on your-itinerary (dates of travel & routes), you might consider purchasing either Passes or Tickets (there are a variety to choose from). Try to time your-itinerary to be where you want to be when, AND see the scenery along the way.

This form of travel in entirely possible and beautiful in fact. There is an opportunity to take this mode of transportation, in which the train has a glass ceiling in order to see an entire panoramic view of the beautiful alps. This mode is highly recommended.

The Bernina Express Rail Tour leaves Milan, Italy and travels thru the Alps. The Malroy Road provides the return trip and is very picturesque, also. This tour costs around $162.

Yes it is possible to travel through train but at some point you will need to go by bus and or car to reach the top of the mountain areas. So yes, you can check it out at a local train station and ask for a departure near by the alps.

Yes, the train systems in Europe are all connected and you may want to buy a Euro-rail ticket which can be used in most of Europe.

The train between Milan, Italy, and Zurich, Switzerland, passes through the Alps. The Alps form the border between Switzerland and Italy. Many trains make this route.
