You can only know the things that place you at risk for paralysis. These include behaviors that could cause brain or spinal cord injuries such as participating in certain sports, speed and other driving behaivors, drinking and driving, etc. and illnesses diseases that cause paralysis, such as strokes and MS.

While we do our best to plan our futures and avoid tragedy, none of us can predict accidents. If you work in a high-risk area or pursue high risk activities (diving, trampoline, skiing, rock climbing, race car driving, etc.) your chances increase. Of 310 million Americans, about 5 million are paralyzed, so the odds are in your favor.
