If you have shingles, you probably had chickenpox awhile ago. Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. It lays dormant and then one day pops up, causing painful inflammation of the nerve endings.

Shingles is the common term for the varicella zoster virus, which lives dormant on nerve cells after a case of chickenpox. The virus can lay dormant for decades, then suddenly emerge as shingles during times of extreme stress or low immune function. Shingles usually presents first with pain, then eruptions of blisters along a nerve path of the skin.

Shingles known as Herpes Zoster is a result of reactivation of varicella Zoster virus which has a lain dormant in a nerve root ganglion following chickenpox earlier in life.Reactivation may be spontaneous or due to immunosuppression disease..First symptom is severe & continous pain in distribution of affected nerve root, followed by reddening & vesicles. Pain usually subsides & eruption fades.

Shingles also known as herpes zoster is a painful condition. It is usually a skin rash that occurs over a nerve. Shingles can be found in rare cases in the mouth, eyes and lungs. Aggressive treatment is needed for eye infections so it doesn't affect the site in the eye. Antivirals, pain relievers are usually the treatment of herpes zoster.

Shingles is caused by the same virus causing chicken pox. It almost always begins as a rash that when not taken care of can infect the major organs of the body.
