A battery is Direct Current (DC) consider the electricity as a liquid, it flows through the wire from the positive side to the negative side just as water would flow from a fountain to a recycle pump. Alternating Current does not do this, it alternates back and forth to the source.

Electrons in a battery flow from the negative terminal to the positive terminal. Electrons in any device attempt to balance out.

electrons flow from the negative terminal to the positive terminal. Since the current has flow continuously in a loop in the same direction the direction inside the battery is backwards
