How do I know if my horse has colic?

Normal colic symptoms include lethargy, unwillingness to eat or drink, pacing, rolling or pawing, looking at the stomach and showing other signs of general discomfort. There are many types of colic and unfortunately, symptoms for a less severe, spasmotic colic mirror those of a more severe impaction.

Symptoms of colic are normally unwillingnedd to eat or drink, box walking, looking generally uncomfortable, laying down, rolling and looking at the stomach. The horse may also have a slight temperature.

Your horse will become very bloated. They will also roll a lot or lie on their backs and get up frequently. They may also pace, have no digestion sounds, have a lack of appetite, kick violently and become lethargic. If you see any of these signs or you suspect your horse has colic call a vet RIGHT away. Don't wait.
