Spices are generally seeds that are produced from various plants like pepper or nutmeg. Herbs are leaves that are harvested and have aromatic properties in themselves, such as basil, bay leaves and parsley. Both spices and herbs can be used fresh or dried. They are sold in small quantities in the case of fresh herbs, to avoid waste.

Herbs are the green leaves of plants, either fresh or dried. Spices are usually seeds, or another part of the plant.
