How can you tell when you're dog-shopping if it's a health puppy?

What are the signs to look for?

The puppy should have a clean and shiny coat, and there should be no signs of skin rash or lesions. Its eyes should be bright and clear of discharge. Also, check the dog's coat around his/her rectal area for signs of discharge or diarreah. When awake, the the puppy should be energetic and curious.

Check for weepy eyes, or heaving breathing. If you can, take it's temperature and look for a fever. The puppy should be active and responsive and able to eat puppy food, even if it has to be watered down first. If in doubt, take it to a vet before paying the owner.

The most important thing to look for is whether you bought it from a registered dog breeder. You should never buy puppies from pet shops because they get their dogs from "puppy mills" which are known for their poor conditions and bad health. A registered breeder will be able to provide you with vet records.

First off, you should adopt from a shelter. However, you should look for signs of worms, like a swollen belly.Look for a shiny coat and bright eyes.
