Wash your armpits well and let them dry before you put on deodorant. Switching to a deodorant that isn't an anti-perspirant might be a good last resort. It's the extra chemicals in anti-perspirant that cause a lot of clumping, and deodorant is better for the body.

The biggest factor in deodorant lumps is the type of deodorant that you use. Spray deodorants, for example, never clump, while powder sticks almost always do. Most deodorants come in a variety of forms; changing to a different form (especially a spray, if one is available) will help.

You can not use deodorant after you shave. At least for 24 hrs. Always use a clean razor and rinse while using it. If itching occurs see your doctor for cream.

Often, it is the brand of deodorant that causes the clumping. Try using a deodorant that has a "gel" formula. If you prefer the "whiter" deodorants, I think it helps to thoroughly dry after showering, and apply a thin layer of powder before deodorant.
