Dogs need to know who is in charge. Take your dogs to a top-notch obedience school. Do not waste money on treat-training or clicker-training. Potentially aggressive dogs and their owners needs serious training to keep everybody, especially the dogs, safe and to prevent lawsuits.

Well you should never tie a dog to a leash for long intervals of time and you should give your dog the time to sit around with people you know and give the dog a feeling of being wanted, the more people the dog meets and make friends the better.

Being overprotective is generally either dominance or hierarchy related. You need to put the dog back in its place, bottom of the pack, and reassure them that you are the protector.

Your dog will probably always be protective. Dogs usually have one person that they will protect over all others. Try taking your dog to the park or somewhere with a lot of people so he can be socialized. After time the dog will calm down.
