Question by  Jonathan74 (92)

Have there been any recalls for the fuel pump on a 97 Ford Expedition?

Sometimes I smell gasoline outside my car.

Yes, several of them. The recalls generally targeted situations that would not involve smelling gasoline outside of the car. The notices pointed out problems with low fuel lights inside the vehicle, hesitation while accelerating through turns, and difficulties filling the gasoline tank at the gas station. Perhaps you spilled gasoline on the side of your car while filling the tank?

Yes there are always recalls on Ford trucks. Usually though it's something small and easily repaired. I haven't seen anything regarding fuel pumps however. A smell from a fuel pump will not be evidence of a bad fuel pump but probably something else. Perhaps some gas or oil spoiled around the pump and is slowly being burned away.

There are no recalls on the fuel pump for your Expidition but you could have a small leak in the gas line. It will leak sometimes and you can smell the gas outside of the car.

A bad or recalled fuel pump will not produce a smell. More than likely you have a fuel leak somewhere in the line, fuel filter or injector.
