It oxidizes in air. The oxidized products are greenish . The oxidation is promoted in humid atmosphere. This oxidation is much slower than the oxidation of iron in air. The electrode potential places it in the category of noble metals.

oxidation basically is a broad scientific term used to explain rusting or corrosion. Rusting is generally used for oxidation of iron and corrosion is used for chemical degradation of metals or compounds due to a chemical reactions. Both terms are included in oxidation, Hence in the presence of air or moisture copper oxidizes to copper oxide.
