Goldfish lay eggs, they are not a livebearing fish. Even livebearing fish have eggs, but the eggs hatch inside the fish as opposed to outside the fish; the only true fishes with a gestation period would be some sharks.

Gold fish lay eggs. They can lay hundreds maybe even thousands at a time and not all in one place either. If in a tank they will be stuck all over things. The ones that look white aren't fertilized and you need to take them out of the tank when you see them.
