Can I start an accounting and tax service that just serves individuals rather than businesses?

Yes, but I am wondering how much accounting you will be doing if you don't have an business clients. There will be little income from April 15-January 15 that way.

Yes, you certainly can. H&R does! Check the IRS site for guidelines particular to this business. Choose a good software to help you, I seriously recommend Intuit (Quicken, Quickbooks). Choose a "niche" and network in your community to attract your client base.

How big your business is and what you choose to take on is up to you. You may want to invest in a mailing (that envelope that comes once a month with advertisements in the mail). Look inside the next one you get for a coupon on the mailing service.

Yes, you need to advertise so that your clients can find you. Try local newspapers or websites that you can post your contact information in.

Yes, you can have an accounting and tax service that only has individuals as customers. If you only accept individuals, you will have no problem. You are limiting the scope of the type of clients and work you will have in your client base, but you can specifically choose which customers to work with.
