The ring will definately hold up. 10k gold is actually stronger than 14k gold because it has more metal mixed in that makes it harder. The higher the karat or the purer the gold, the softer it is. 10k is always a nice option for those on a budget so don't worry, you're not wasting your money!

Buy what you can afford, it should hold up for a number of years. You can always upgrade later in life when you have more money, don't worry about it.
