It depends on how much you eat and what it is. Some will just make you vomit or give you diarrhea, even in small quantities. Eating potato fruit, which is a member of the nightshade family, can result in death.

It could kill you if you ate a lot of it, but basically it will just make you very sick. Vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, and so on.
