Fly larvae in rabbits is known as flystrike. It is very dangerous and needs to be treated by veterinarian immediately for any chance of survival. The most common cause is fecal matter stuck to the fur of the rabbit due to either diarrhea or a cage that has not been cleaned frequently enough.

Rabbits like any other pet need to have a clean environment to live, fresh food and water to remain clean and healthy. Flies will lay eggs in unclean matted fur.

In the summer rabbits can get what is caled flystrike. This hapens when Blue Bottle fly lays eggs on an animal. Usual the eggs are laid behind the tails because its harder for the rabbit reach. The larvae will eat the rabbit so take to the vet right away.
