Why won't the mower blades turn even though the engine is running?

If this is a riding mower, then the deck may be disengaged. If that is not the cause, the belt is either missing or faulty.

Lawn mower blades won't turn if they are bent and getting stuck on something. Also, some times twine or vines can get caught in the blade and will cause it to not move. Cut grass, especially when wet, can clogg the shoots and get stuck in the blade as well.

Make sure the belt is intact and over all the pulleys as it should be. Also check the tensioner pulley. If it seems too loose, replace it.

The blade could be stuck. There might be something clogging the mower blade. I hope this helps you out. Or you can get a book on it to fix it.
