Why isn't my baby sleeping longer than 45 minutes at a time?

No fever or symptoms of illness.

If he is breastfed, he may be hungry as this milk works through his system quicker. Try feeding more at a time. If he is bottle fed, he may be gassy or uncomfortable. Try burping or tilting the crip mattress so that he sleeps on an incline. Try swaddling or checking room temperature.

Assuming this is a change from normal patterns, there are a few possibilities: a growth spurt can disrupt baby's patterns. Teething, certainly can cause baby to wake frequently. A new level of awareness normal with development could cause baby to realize he/she is alone or separate from mom.

Think about where your baby is sleeping. If the baby is sleeping anywhere except for a crib or bassinet this could be why.

Your baby just might not be a good sleeper. Generally, they should be able to go between 2-5 hours so just be patient.
