Check the speaker connection first. Then try plugging the speakers into something else to verify that they are working. (An Ipod or cd player with a line in or headphone jack will work. ) Then check the manufacturers website for your sound card for an updated driver.

The Sounds and Audio Devices in the Control Panel is where these sounds can be turned on or off. Open Control Panel, double click the Sounds and Audio Devices icon, then under the Sound tab users can select a sound scheme by clicking on the drop down bar and choosing.

It is possible that your computer's volume is turned off. It is also possible that your speakers are turned off, or perhaps are unplugged. Finally, it is possible that default sounds have been replaced with other sounds.

Windows xp has its default sounds stored in its system directory folder. There is a chance for loss of sound files due to accidental delete or a viral attack. Try to restore your computer or try playing the default sounds by going to the sounds option in the control panel.

First check the physical connections on the computer, is the speaker plugged in and turned on. Then check the control panel and make sure the audio card driver is installed.

You may need to go to Control Panel in Windows XP and play around with the Sound Settings to specify which sounds you want it to play when. Go to Control Panel, then click on Sounds and specify which sounds you want Windows to play when something happens. You'll need to specify the file path of each sound too.
