Why is there an increased risk of blood clots during pregnancy?

The risk of blood clots increases in pregnancy due to the body creating increased levels of clotting factors to reduce blood loss during labor and delivery. Blood clots can be dangerous for the baby, it can cause a miscarriage or cause the placenta to become unattached from the walls of the uterus.

Blood clotting during pregnancy is an increased risk because of the extra blood flow and pressure and are generally found in the pelvic area and upper thighs.
